J Linden employed by Hastings Borough Council as Project Manager and Landscape Architect on a 4 year fixed term contract to co-ordinate and deliver restoration plans for Alexandra Park. The project has involved extensive documentation and provision of a Conservation and Management Plan. The ground works have included building restoration and demolition, dredging and naturalization of ponds, rebuild of the path network and a stone retaining wall, planting and other projects associated with park restoration within an extensive brief.

Project: The requirements by the client was to produce a feasibility study, environmental assessment, costings and an outline design for a sustainable village with renewable energy provision on the outskirts of Askeaton in Southern Ireland. The intention was to design primarily identifying the importance of land forms, water bodies and vegetation.


Services:


Production of an environmental assessment, feasibility study, mixed use sustainable village utilizing renewable energy production. The feasibility study and reports were submitted to Limerick Corporation, discussions prior to planning consent are continuing.

Project:

A former state of the art sewage complex was identified for demolition within the Coisley Hill area of Sheffield. The land covered 15.5 hectares of a valley with a stream running along the lower boundary. Finance was minimal and the design and construction was aimed at a sustainable approach in keeping with the status of an ecology park and in keeping with the restricted funding.


Services:



J Linden carried out design, demolition and construction details in association with the countryside unit of SCC. The works carried out were fully planted with native seed mixes and native trees and shrubs. The hard works were carried out by re-use of site materials and subsoil deposited by local contractors.

Project: Following improvement works to the towpath from London Zoo to Kentish Town. The Steering Group identified underbridge lighting as a priority. Discussions with Londen Borough of Camden and British Waterways were conducted for over a year before agreement was reached on the potential costs and responsibilities of the lighting. The criteria however, was set up for further lighting schemes.


Services:


J Linden carried out design, project contract management and negotiations for towpath improvements and installation of underbridge lighting. The consultation included the Regents Canal Steering Group and extensive talks with LB of Camden and British Waterways.

Project: Requirement by LBC to design and deliver a play area adjacent to a football pitch on a troubled housing estate in Camden. J Linden carried out full community consultation and fortnightly meetings with the local residents association conducting an extensive Planning for Real exercise prior to site design.

Services: Full community consultation, design, detailing, project and contract management. The project has been successful with the intention to invest further finance within the play area at a later date.

Project:

Construction of a new section of approach road freed up an area of land. J Linden for Merthyr & Cynon Groundwork Trust prepared an at-risk design for SGDC in competition with four landscape practices. The design was aimed at producing a town park in co-ordination with the local parish church catering for local arts, community involvement and constructed from local materials.


Services:

Local, in-depth community consultation produced the outline for the scheme. J Linden carried out design, detailing and full project co-ordination. The park was heralded by SDGC as a local sculpture park.

Project:

The Taff Trail has been constructed to provide a route for bicycles and walkers from Cardiff to Brecon. J Linden was involved in the construction of several sections of the path. At Pontstycwyth there was a requirement for a bridge to connect the trail on either side of a gorge. J Linden designed the bridge and contacted the Royal Engineers to construct the bridge as a training exercise. The bridge was therefore installed at low cost.

Project:

Living Water constructed an ecological system of water management for a company on the outskirts of Edinburgh. J Linden was requested to provide an integrated design for native planting to screen the ponds in keeping with the local plan and for the provision of wildlife habitats.

Project:

Development of the park on previous housing land involved the setting up and co-ordination of a local residents organization with the provision for a future management role. The area is represented by seven different ethnic minorities and necessitated ongoing consultation and involvement of the differing populations.


Services:

J Linden carried out detailed organisation of Darnall Community group. Development works included full community consultation, design and project management during construction. Post development issues were increasingly dealt with by the Darnall Community Trust.

Project:

Section of a linear park designed to reinstate a canalized river to a semi-natural riverside landscape for surrounding new build residential properties. Further development upstream included design and construction of a sports pitch, new changing rooms and two play areas.


Services:

J Linden in response to user surveys, prepared a landscape strategy, developed designs, landscape detailing, tender documentation and inspection of construction. Full management plans and options were submitted to the client.

The requirements of the brief identified a need for an internally focused garden. There was a preference for strong angular shapes rather than fluid forms.

Project:

The site marked the position of a wealthy roman villa. Mosaic floors discovered at the site had been removed for safe keeping. There were no further remains of the building. The archaeologists had outlined the positions of the rooms within the villa. J Linden was asked to rebuild the remains of the villa and the roman garden with full attention to the archaeological requirements.


Services:

Discussions with archaeologists and inspections of roman remains around the UK provided J Linden with the basis for the design. The project was detailed, tendered with full inspection during construction.
